Three time Major champion Nick Price is headed to Fiji in August to contest the inaugural Fiji International.
Price will add his star power to the field which already includes national hero Vijay Singh. The Zimbabwean will tee it up at the Natadola Bay Championship Golf Course from the 14-17 August.
“I am looking forward to competing in the Fiji International. I hear the Natadola Bay course is well designed by Vijay and will provide a fitting challenge,” said Price.
“I have also heard a lot about the beauty of Fiji and the hospitality of its people so while I will be aiming to compete on the course I also look forward to exploring the island.”
The announcement of Price competing in the Fiji International is a win for the tournament in its first year.
“It is an honour to have Nick Price compete in the inaugural Fiji International, he is an icon of the game around the world,” said Brian Thorburn, CEO of the PGA of Australia.
“To have a player of his calibre lining up will help ensure the tournaments success but will also provide sports fans in Fiji the opportunity to see another legend of the game in action.”
Price is revered around the world for his golfing achievements which includes winning two PGA Championships (1992 and 1994), The Open Championship (1994), being ranked the World Number 1 position for 44 weeks and being inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame.
Along with his 47 other international Professional victories, Price has most recently used his experience and knowledge to captain the International team in the 2013 Presidents Cup and will again lead the team in 2015.
Already a champion on the PGA Tour of Australasia having won the South Australian Open (1989) and Air New Zealand / Shell Open (1992) this will be Price’s first time competing on OneAsia.
The Fiji International will be played at Natadola Bay Championship Golf Course from 14-17 August and will be Fiji’s first internationally broadcast golf tournament.
Being played for a US$1 million prize purse the Fiji International will be co-sanctioned by the PGA Tour of Australasia and OneAsia.
Proudly supported by the Fijian Government, the Fiji International is expected to produce a multi-million dollar boost for the Fijian economy, in addition to flow on benefits including the growth of the game in the region.
Designed by Singh, the Natadola Bay Championship Golf Course is renowned for its sparkling backdrop of coral reefs and the Pacific Ocean that line 15 out of the 18 championship holes.
